Innovation Lab for Small Scale Irrigation

The Feed the Future Innovation Lab for Small-Scale Irrigation (ILSSI) is a research-for-development project that aims to expand farmer-led, small scale irrigation in Ethiopia, Ghana, Mali, and Tanzania. Sustainable, profitable, and gender-sensitive irrigation contributes to agricultural growth, resilient food systems, and better nutrition and health, particularly for vulnerable populations.

Walla Walla Creative Co. developed a cohesive style for consistent use across multiple projects including presentations, event support, informational materials, and a series of briefs summarizing key research findings.

A set of reports presented the findings of multiple studies covering nine key areas of research. Most were printed; all are available as interactive PDFs. These briefs fulfilled a major requirement of the funding grants and quickly became valuable as a convenient source of study findings and summaries. They were then further distilled into a single 40-page meta-report for presentation of the overall project and for posterity.

A symposium at the Regan Building in DC marked the completion of the ten-year small scale irrigation initiative and served as an opportunity to celebrate and review the findings and their impact on development, research, and policy. Walla Walla Creative Co. provided program sheet and booklets, signs, promotional materials, and screen presentations.

ILSSI needed a guide to safe and effective use of crop production chemicals for educational use in rural Africa. We designed it as a wire-bound, large-format booket, using universal color and image cues to convey critical dos and don’ts of agrochemical use.
